Description
Back story of the picture: I was calming her down because she was spooked by some peacocks.
Back story of the horse: Blaire is a 21 year old AQHA mare. I got her 3 years ago. Blaire, originally named Lily, was 500 lbs underweight and scared out of her wits. Her original owners just dropped her off at a friend's house because they moved. She sat in pasture for two years with no work and no one taking her out. I don't know what happened to Blaire before then, but she was a crazy little thing. She had no trust and disliked people. The people who were keeping her at the time offered her to me for free. She used to be a cutting horse, and had tons of experience under saddle, but all that experience vanished in her two years of being in pasture.
For my birthday, the people watching her put her on a high supplement diet and she gained her weight back quickly. We trailered her out to a ranch nearby my home. We started with just sitting in her paddock, with her and I for hours, just talking quietly with her. When she finally gained the trust to let me catch her, we started simple. Lunging, picking up her feet, walking her around the barn. She quickly became very trusting towards me and let me get on her without being troublesome about it. This horse could move. Fastest horse i've ever ridden, even at her age she outran all the younger horses in her paddock with her. It's been 3 years since I got her and I wouldn't trade her for the world. She's my wonder horse.
